The 2027 Subaru Crosstrek Lineup Changes for Jacksonville Buyers

Subaru has confirmed the 2027 Crosstrek lineup, and one trim did not survive the model-year change: the gas-only Crosstrek Sport has been discontinued. The 2027 range is Base, Premium, Sport Hybrid, Limited, Limited Hybrid and Wilderness, which means the Sport name now exists only on the hybrid side. For Jacksonville and Camp Lejeune buyers who had their eye on a gas Sport, the decision window is the current model year.

What Subaru Announced

On July 9, 2026, Subaru of America announced the 2027 Crosstrek lineup. The headline for shoppers is not a new feature. It is a subtraction.

Subaru's own wording is direct: last year's gas-only Crosstrek Sport trim level has been discontinued. That leaves six trims for 2027, down from seven.

What It Actually Means

Trim names move around between model years, so it is worth being precise about what changed.

The Sport was the gas Crosstrek with sport styling, a sport-tuned suspension and upgraded wheels. It sat between Premium and Limited and gave you the look without the leather. It is the trim a lot of younger buyers landed on.

For 2027, that gas version is gone. The Sport Hybrid stays. So the name survives, but the powertrain under it does not. If you wanted Sport styling with the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter Boxer and nothing electrified, the current model year is where that combination lives.

Worth knowing: the Crosstrek Hybrid is a full hybrid, not a plug-in. Subaru discontinued the plug-in version after the 2023 model year. It charges itself through the engine and regenerative braking, so there is no cable, no home charger and no charging stop to plan around. That distinction confuses a lot of shoppers, and it is the single most useful thing to understand before you compare a Sport to a Sport Hybrid.

Everything else that makes a Crosstrek a Crosstrek carries over on the cars we sell today: Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive standard on every trim, EyeSight standard on every trim, and X-MODE across the range. Our Crosstrek AWD breakdown covers how the drivetrain differs trim to trim.

Why It Matters in Jacksonville

The Sport sold well here for an obvious reason. Jacksonville is a young market. Marines and sailors at Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River buying a first or second car want something that looks right in the barracks lot without stepping up to the top of the range, and the Sport was exactly that.

Losing the gas version narrows that choice. A buyer who wanted the styling now either steps to the Sport Hybrid or takes a Premium and gives up the sport-specific pieces.

The counter-argument is that the hybrid may suit this market better anyway. The commute from Jacksonville housing to the New River gate is short and stop-and-go, which is the worst case for a gas engine and the best case for a full hybrid. The Hybrid trims are rated up to 36 MPG combined against 26 city for the gas trims, and short trips are exactly where that gap is widest.

The Sport Hybrid carries the Sport name into 2027. The gas Sport does not continue.

The other local angle is the used market. Gas Sport trims from recent years become a finite pool the moment production stops. That tends to firm up resale on the ones already out there, which matters to anyone who bought one and expects to sell before a PCS move.

What Happens Next for Jacksonville Shoppers

Model-year transitions run on a predictable rhythm, though the exact dates vary and no dealership can promise one.

  • Now. Current model-year Crosstreks, including the gas Sport, are what is on lots. Once they are gone, that trim is not reordered.
  • This fall. New model-year vehicles typically begin arriving at stores several weeks after Subaru's launch, and allocation reaches individual dealerships at different times.
  • After arrival. We will publish a full 2027 Crosstrek specification page once the vehicles are actually here and the equipment is confirmed rather than projected.

If a gas Sport is what you want, the practical advice is to call and ask what is on the ground rather than wait. Inventory changes weekly and we would rather tell you honestly than have you drive over for something that already sold.
