Can Military Orders Get You Out of a Car Lease?
At Sport Durst Subaru of Jacksonville, we've had the honor of helping many military service members find that perfect Subaru for them and their families. We take pride in supporting our troops and bringing joy to military families in our community.Â
We often get questions about car leases from active duty service members who want to make the most of Sport Durst Subaru's amazing deals without having to deal with the stress of making payments while being deployed. So, today we'll dive deep into the subject and clear any lingering doubts.Â
Can I get out of a car lease due to military orders?Â
While a lot of dealerships tend to be hazy on details, we're pleased to tell you that you can absolutely get out of a car lease due to military orders.Â
The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) is a federal law designed to protect the legal and financial rights of active-duty service members and their families. Under its provisions, you have multiple options to navigate an active lease, including terminating it.Â
How do I know if I'm eligible to get out of my lease?
There are two types of eligibility criteria that most dealerships look into while discussing lease termination due to military orders:
Pre-Active Duty Leases
If you entered into a lease before going on active duty, you may be eligible to terminate the lease if you're called to active duty for 180 days or more.
Active Duty Leases
If you entered into a lease while on active duty, you may be eligible to terminate your lease under certain conditions, such as Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders that deploy you outside the Continental United States, or if your deployment orders are for 180 days or more.
What's the process to terminate my lease?
Unlike many other dealerships, Sport Durst Subaru makes it easy for you to terminate your lease when you're under military orders. You just have to follow a few quick and easy steps:Â
Provide Written Notice
Send a written notice to us about terminating your lease along with a copy of your military orders.
Verify Military Status
Then, we may ask you to verify your military status through the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act Centralized (SCRA) Verification Service.
Return The VehicleÂ
You may choose to sublease your vehicle to a third party during this process. If not, simply return the vehicle to us and you should be set!
