Short answer: yes. Subaru Crosstrek reliability is backed by two independent measures. Subaru announced the Crosstrek as Most Dependable Small SUV in the J.D. Power 2026 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study, and Consumer Reports puts the 2026 Crosstrek at the top of the subcompact SUVs it rates.
Three Numbers Worth Knowing
Dealer opinion is worth very little on a reliability question. These are third-party measures, each from a named source you can go read yourself.
Why the Crosstrek Holds Up
Subaru has built the same basic recipe for a long time, and the parts that matter have a lot of road behind them.
The 2.5-liter Boxer engine is naturally aspirated. No turbo, no direct-injection complexity added for output it does not need. It makes 180 hp and asks for regular fuel.
Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is standard on all seven trims and has been Subaru's core layout for decades. It is not a bolt-on system added to a front-drive car, which is part of why it has so few unique failure points.
EyeSight comes standard too, and it is camera-based rather than radar-heavy. That matters at trade-in time, because a car that avoided a collision is worth more than one that was repaired well.

What to Check on a Used Crosstrek
A strong reliability record does not mean every individual car was looked after. These are the four things worth asking about, and none of them are exotic.
- CVT fluid history. The Lineartronic CVT is the part owners ask about most. Serviced on schedule, it does its job. Ask to see the records rather than take a word for it.
- Matched tires. Symmetrical AWD wants all four tires at similar diameter. A car with one odd tire has either been neglected or repaired cheaply, and evening up the set is a real cost.
- EyeSight and the windshield. The cameras sit at the top of the glass. If the windshield was replaced, confirm the system was recalibrated afterward.
- Underbody, if it lived near the water. Coastal cars collect salt. Look at brake lines and suspension hardware. This applies to anything driven around Camp Lejeune, not just a Subaru.

Coastal Ownership, Honestly
Onslow County is a salt-air market. Anyone who has owned a vehicle here through a few summers knows what that does to hardware over time, and no badge on the grille changes it.
What you can control is routine. Rinse the underbody after beach runs to Topsail or a boat launch at Swansboro. Keep the service intervals. Coastal cars that get washed and serviced hold up close to inland ones. Coastal cars that get neither do not.
Our service department handles Subaru maintenance in-house, including CVT service and EyeSight calibration. If you already own a Crosstrek, book a service appointment and ask what the coastal inspection covers.
